UTS defeated Saint Kilda 32-31 to win the bronze medal at the 2026 Australian Handball Club Championship. The match went goal-for-goal to the end. In the final 10 seconds, Saint Kilda scored a 7m goal to get within one goal of UTS. They then went on a full-court press to force an error, but the Sydney side held possession to the end, securing the win. Saint Kilda’s Marvin Goergen top scored with 11 goals, and Fabian Rettenberger led the UTS attack with 10 goals. A great game charged with energy and we can’t wait to see these teams in competition again!
Canberra are into Australian Handball Club Championship final for the first time in their 20-year history after a gritty 24:20 win over Saint Kilda. Saint Kilda put Canberra under immense pressure from the start and led 15-13 by the 40th minute. But, a tactical shift in Canberra’s defensive formation shutdown Saint Kilda’s attack, making goals hard to come by for the rest of the match. Canberra then built momentum, slowly turning the tide to get the win.
What a thriller in Group A! Gold Coast had 30 seconds to snatch a semi-final spot. But Saint Kilda’s defense held their ground, denying a shot at goal and locking in a 24-24 stalemate. With equal points coming into this match, it all came down to the for-and-against count: Saint Kilda’s better goal difference was all the difference in the end. That was the game of the round! Next up UQ and UTS will battle under the same conditions for the final spot in the semis – and UQ has the better goal difference.
Gyorgy Molnar saved an incredible 21 shots to help Saint Kilda take the big win against UNSW today. Saint Kilda is now 1-1 and must win the crucial game against Gold Coast tomorrow to qualify for the finals.
Sydney Uni came out strong, establishing a good lead early on and managing the game – as they know best – to secure a 32-21 victory over Saint Kilda. While the reigning champs controlled the pace, credit must go to Saint Kilda for their massive effort in the second half. Saint Kilda stepped up their intensity, but the first-half deficit proved too large to overcome. Sydney Uni’s Malo Molénat was in a scoring mood, leading the list with 8 goals. A great first day full of drama, and great rivalry.
